  The Town of Miami Lakes Government Center received Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification and plaque on September 12 from the U.S. Green Building Council. Farewell to old Miami Lakes Optimist Clubhouse

  Thirty-seven years of Miami Lakes Optimist Club history succumbed to an excavator in late August as the aging clubhouse was demolished to make way for a new state-of-the-art building to be constructed by the Town of Miami Lakes. Hurricane Wilma swept over the clubhouse in 2005 and it was deemed unrepairable. The new clubhouse and gymnasium is part of a master plan to renovate Miami Lakes Optimist Park.

  Kevin Fernandez, a resident of Royal Oaks in Miami Lakes, has been named to the Dean's List in the University of Notre Dame's College of Arts and Letters for outstanding scholarship during the Spring 2013 semester. Students who achieve the Dean's honors at Notre Dame represent the top 30 percent of students in their college.
