The 7th Annual Cars for a Cure auto show drew crowds of onlookers to see more than 200 classic vehicles displayed April 2 along the streets of downtown Miami Lakes, the non-profit organization said. It was all for a good cause, to benefit research at University of Miami Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. The fundraiser is a passion of the Alonso family, whose patriarch Roberto Alonso, Sr. was the town’s first vice mayor. He died in 2013 from a rare cancer. He also loved classic cars. Family members are shown in the photo above in front of his cherry red ‘64 Chevelle.
Shown from left in the back row are: Mauricio Banderas; Idania Alonso; Alexandra Alonso; Roberto Alonso; Oliver Alonso; Joshua Mendoza; Jessica Mendoza and Jesus Mendoza. Kneeling in front from left are Kaylee Mendoza; Christine Banderas; Carolina Banderas; Luciano Banderas; Robbie Alonso and Sebastian the Ibis, the University of Miami mascot.
The non-profit will announce the day’s proceeds and donation to the university on a future date. Photo courtesy of Alexandra Alonso.
