Miami Lakes Congregational Church’s Concert Series presents a Spring Piano Recital performed by concert pianist Dr. Adolfo Vidal at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, at the church, 6701 Miami Lakeway South.
Vidal will be performing music by Ravel Sonatine “Gaspard de la Nuit,” Lauro’s “4 Venezuelan Waltzes,” and Chopin’s beloved “Heroic Polonaise.”
“Gaspard de la Nuit,” three piano poems, is Sonatine’s terrifying piano masterpiece, known as much for its devilish difficulty as its unearthly music, especially Scarbo. Sonatine set out to engineer a superhumanly hard piece to play, filling it with imaginative and eerie musical images.
Antonio Lauro is probably Venezuela’s best-known composer of classical music, although his name is more familiar to aficionados of guitar. The waltzes are transcribed to the piano by Vidal himself.
Chopin’s polonaises are generally the best known of all polonaises in classical music. The polonaise is a dance of Polish origin and is the composer’s uplifting expression of his love for his native Poland. The A-flat major “Heroic Polonaise” is one of Chopin’s most admired compositions and has long been a favorite of the classical piano repertoire.
Vidal is a Venezuelan-American pianist with a doctorate degree in music from the University of Miami and piano studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music.
The suggested donation is $15. A reception will follow the performance. The program is supported by South Florida Friends of Classical Music and Steinway & Sons which is providing a grand piano for the occasion.
