The founding class of graduates at Latin Builders Association Construction and Business Management Academy Charter High School (LBA Academy) surpassed the state and district averages on the End of Course Examinations (EOC). The school also had a perfect score from an underclassman.
A total of 91 percent of students demonstrated mastery of subjects and 100 percent showed increased learning. The cherry on top came from freshman Bryan Natera, with his perfect score.
Natera earned a perfect score on the Algebra I EOC assessment. Natera often participated in his Algebra class, sometimes leading friendly competitions with classmates on the course material. After completing assignments he would ask his Algebra I teacher, Samantha Harris, for more difficult problems or help others who were struggling.
Creative teaching techniques such as solving puzzles with equations and using quadratic equations to beat the video game, Angry Birds, were used in mathematics classrooms to facilitate learning.
"I am beyond proud of Bryan and his accomplishment," said Harris. "I have never seen a student score a 100 percent on past Algebra I EOC exams. He has worked so hard throughout the school year and is a true example of what you can achieve with hard work and perseverance."
Natera has set the bar high for incoming freshman, confirming that with motivation and hard work a perfect score is an attainable goal. The faculty and staff at LBA Academy expect "many more perfect scores" from students.
The LBA Academy is located at 13835 N.W. 97 Avenue in Hialeah. Registration is now open for freshmen and sophomores.
