The Miami Lakes town council unanimously approved extending the contract with the Miami-Dade Police Department

The law enforcement agency works out of Town Hall.

Approved on Oct. 29, the contract runs until Sept. 30, 2029. It will cost the town $11 million for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, a 31% increase over the 2019 agreement, mainly from increases to compensation, operating equipment/services costs and benefits, the town said.

Police services cost  52% of the town’s general fund expenses.

On Nov. 5, Rosie Cordero-Stutz was elected sheriff.  President-elect Donald Trump endorsed her.

She has to move to the county and said on WFOR-Ch. 4’s “Facing South Florida,” “Miami Lakes has always been a favorite place of ours.”
