As the lazy days of summer get started, parents who want to peel their kids away from screens can send them to a variety of camps around town and in Palm Springs North.
From learning to swing a racquet or a golf club to performing in musical theater or mastering STEM courses, kids will have lots of fun opportunities to fill their time while out of school.

Camp Y, YMCA June 10 to Aug. 2 Ages 5 to 12
Enjoy dance, soccer, enrichment activities and get support while learning core subjects such as math, reading and science. Children’s Theater Workshop June 9 to June 28 Ages 7 to 14
This summer’s Children’s Theater Workshop presented by The Main Street Players will offer two daily sessions. In the morning session, kids can learn how to develop their storytelling skills, create characters and bring an original production to life. The afternoon session will work on musical theater skills. Campers will learn to sing, dance and act as they prepare to perform “The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition!”
The camp requires a non-refundable $100 registration fee. The morning session, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., costs $400; the afternoon session costs $600 and runs from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Kids who sign up for both sessions pay $1,000. Miami Lakes United Methodist Church Vacation Bible School - Live It Out June 9 to June 13 Ages 4 to 11
Children can explore the Bible through games, crafts and music at this camping-themed Vacation Bible School. Snacks will be provided for participants. Price is $30 for the first two children in a family, additional children can attend at no cost. Work on critical thinking, creativity and teamwork at this science, technology, engineering, art and math camp. Miami Lakes Athletic Club Summer Camp June 9 to Aug. 8 Ages 5 to 13
Campers can play basketball, soccer and dodgeball, make arts and crafts and do other activities. Kids will also enjoy swimming twice a week as well as trips to the movies. Special events will be scheduled every week. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Registration fee is $55 per camper and $219 per week, with aftercare available for an additional $30. Camp at The Miami Lakes Athletic Club, 15150 Bull Run Road, is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with drop-off from 8 a.m. Campers can sign up at the athletic club. Tennis Camp at Miami Lakes Athletic Club June 9 to Aug. 8 Ages 5 to 17
Campers can learn and practice tennis skills at this camp. Along with lessons on the courts, kids will go to the movies, swim and enjoy a special event every week. Players have two options for attending tennis camp: full day camp from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. or half-day camp, 9 a.m. to noon. Tennis camp has a $55 non-refundable registration fee. It costs $149 per week for a half-day, and kids can add summer camp for an additional $89 per week. Full-day camp is $219 per week. Aftercare is available for an additional $30. Camp at The Growing Place June 2 to Aug. 1 Ages 2 to 7
Kids can enjoy sports activities, water activities and arts and crafts at this mainly indoor summer camp. Campers should bring lunch; a snack will be provided. Full-day and half-day options are available. Full-day camp is from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. and costs $160 per week, per child. Half-day camp is from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and costs $145 per week, per child. Country Club of Miami, Summer Camp at South Park June 9 to Aug. 1 Ages 6 to 14
Join Miami-Dade Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces for outdoor activities and fun games at this camp. Summer camp is divided into four sessions, two weeks each. There is no camp on June 19 or July 4.
Session 1 is June 9 - 20; Session 2 begins on June 23 - July 3; Session 3 is July 7 - 18 and Session 4 begins on July 21 - Aug. 1. Each session costs $90, even if the child is not attending both weeks. There is a one time, $15 registration fee per participant. Kids can make arts and crafts and enjoy a water day, video games and field trips. There will also be noncompetitive sports. Camp shirts are $20, cash only. Registration is $36 per child. Miami Lakes Optimist Baseball Camp June 9 to Aug. 1 Ages 6 to 12
Little sluggers can work on their baseball skills at Miami Lakes Optimist Baseball Camp. Kids can practice hitting drills, tossing, live pitching and bunting; field ground and fly balls; learn proper throwing mechanics and techniques for running bases and sliding. Participants should bring a bat, glove, helmet, T-shirt, baseball pants, shorts, cleats, turf cleats and sneakers. Cost is $180 per week, $170 per week for Town of Miami Lakes residents or returning baseball players.
