 The Miami-Dade County Library branch in Miami Lakes is offering classes.  

     Most events require preregistration and popular courses may fill up early. Sign up in advance to avoid being shut out of classes.

     The library at 6699 Windmill Gate Rd. is open Monday - Thursday, 9:30 a.m. - 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. - 6 p.m., and closed Sunday. 

Homework Help & Tutoring  Sat., May 3, 10    10 a.m. – 1 p.m.  Certified teachers tutor students in reading, math and science for one-hour sessions. For grades K-12. Free and funded in part by The Children’s Trust. For information contact tutoring@mdpls.org or 305-375-1413.  www.mdpls.org/tutor.

Talking is Teaching: Talk, Read, Sing for Toddlers Wed., April 30, May 7, 14    11 a.m. – 12 p.m.  Toddlers and caregivers will hear stories, sing songs and enjoy activities.   Ages 18 mos. – 3

Teen Library Advisory Committee – Mobile photography workshop for teens by Vanessa Porras Iwasiuk  Wed., April 30  4 p.m. – 5 p.m.  Earn volunteer hours while learning about cellphone photography. Earn volunteer hours and help to improve the library and events for teens. Make new friends while choosing books, planning and leading programs and learning new skills. Ages 13 – 19

Glass Painting: Older Americans Month    May 2  10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.  Presented by the Education Advisory Board. Free. For ages 60+. Register at TOML.Eventbrite.com.

Aloha Island Dancers - A Polynesian Celebration - Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month  Sat., May 3  3 p.m. – 4 p.m.  Learn the customs and dances of Hawaii, Tahiti and New Zealand. After the show, practice a few dance styles and take a photo with a performer. All ages.

Health and Nutrition Class presented by Feeding South Florida Tues., May 6   1 p.m. – 2 p.m.   Learn to prepare tasty, nutritious meals and get tips on how to eat healthily while on a budget. Recipes and treats provided for the class.  Ages 19+

Wartime Food Tasting -  World War II at 80   Wed., May 7   4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.  Sample foods and learn about eating habits of infantry soldiers and civilians during World War II.  Ages 12 – 18

 Blooming Creations: A Paper Bouquet for Mother’s Day  Thurs., May 8  4 p.m. – 5 p.m.  Create vibrant paper flowers in a unique bouquet to celebrate the mother figures in your life.  Ages 6 +

Just Keep Jumping!  Sat., May 10   3 p.m. – 4 p.m.  Join Jump Generation to learn jump roping skills. Wear comfortable clothes, closed-toe shoes and get fit.  Ages 8 – 12
