Ask Marivi Moya about her pup Penny Sue, and you’ll hear a tale that started off sad but is getting better by the day.
A rescue group found her, pregnant and tied to a palm tree after Hurricane Maria struck Puerto Rico, Moya said.
“When they told me how they found her, [I thought,] ‘What kind of person would do that?’” Moya said.
Penny Sue made it to the mainland and joined Moya’s household. Also there is Moya’s mother, Maria Moya.
Penny Sue also shares the space with Ezra, a Maltese; a Maltese/poodle mix called Romeo and a gray cat named Dorian, all rescues.
“She’s the queen of the house,” Moya said of Penny Sue, who may be part Shih Tzu.
“She’s afraid of any little noise, and especially of men,” Moya said. “[When she arrived] she was not friendly and so skinny. And now she’s a blimpo, close to 18 pounds.”
Penny Sue is about 7 years old. Moya is her person.
“She’s only attached to me,” Moya said.
