Hialeah-Miami Lakes Concert Band earned an excellent rating at the Florida Bandmasters Association District 16 Concert Band Music Performance.

The performances were held at Hialeah Gardens High School from March 4 to March 6.

Four judges reviewed the band’s performance; their ability to play a piece of music the band hadn’t seen before and the student conductor’s ability to lead the ensemble.

“This group of student performers have worked hard these past two months and their efforts earned them an overall excellent rating,” Jason Cochrac, director of bands and orchestra at HML, wrote in an email. “I am very proud of them, and it has been a privilege teaching and guiding them…”

The band of 17 students played “Cheshire Forest March” by Michael Oare; “Castles and Dragons” by Todd Stalter and “Peregrin: A Traveler’s Tale” by Douglas Akey.

Hialeah-Miami Lakes was one of 32 schools at the state District 16 music performance assessment, an annual benchmark for bands.
