Main Street Players will present a staged reading of the play East Light and Jack Madigan by Robert Anderson, staged by Robert Coppel, on Saturday, June 18, at 8 p.m., 6766 Main Street, Miami Lakes. Tickets are $10 and may be purchased at the door or online at www.mainstreetplayers.com.
It is February 1995 and Jack Madigan is excited about the fact that his girlfriend, Laurie, will soon be moving in with him but a monkey wrench is thrown into his plan when he gets an unexpected visit from his dad, Bill. It seems as if his chain-smoking, alcoholic father has come to Florida from the Northeast to find “his harmony” away from his loving, but overly concerned wife.
Both Jack and Laurie do their best to greet the elder Madigan with open arms, but Laurie makes it clear to Jack that she will not be moving into his place until his dad is out. She makes a valiant effort in reaching out to him as they share a love for literature, but Bill is a tough man to crack and he leaves Laurie keeping her distance, which could impact her relationship with Jack.
Ryan Boda plays Jack Madigan, Amy Brienes plays Laurie, and Joel Kolker plays Bill Madigan. Stage directions will be read by Cindy Castillo.
