Miami Lakes names street for fallen soldier

     A street near Barbara Goleman Senior High School will be named for a fallen soldier who attended the school in Miami Lakes.

    Northwest 143rd St. will be co-named for U.S. Army Sgt. 1st Class Ofren Arrechaga of Hialeah and Clarksville, Tenn. 

     Arrechaga was a 28-year-old decorated soldier who was killed in action in Kunar Province, Afghanistan in 2011. 

     His former classmate Yessenia Gonzalez asked the town council in 2021 to name a street for her friend, and the Miami Lakes council approved it in January.
