Appearing with School Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman is a group of students participating in the celebration of Cuban Independence Day which takes place on May 20. On that day, Cuba ceased being a colony of Spain and joined the community of free democratic republics in the Western Hemisphere. For the past 12 years Hantman has been sponsoring the celebration of this historic date at M.A. Milam K-8 Center currently under the stewardship of its principal Anna M. Hernandez.
