Adriana Kruger loves cats.
“When they die, we suffer,” she said.
For a while, she and her husband Robert Kruger had a cat that lived outdoors, but when they returned from a vacation he was gone.
“I missed him, and I wanted another cat,” she said.
She was in luck: A neighbor’s cat had a litter of four kittens.
“These two stopped my heart,” Kruger said. “They all looked different, but they all have big fluffy tails.”
About 18 months ago, Lily, a black girl with yellow eyes and Dino, a gray boy with green eyes, joined the household.
The cats are bilingual, and respond to conversations in English and Spanish, their mistress says.
“My husband said they are smarter than him because he only speaks English,” she said.
Lily’s space is outside, where she follows butterflies, Kruger said.
Dino likes to watch the world go by from inside their home while lying on a shelf the couple installed on a window.
“They are so smart,” she said. “They are so lovely.”
