The Miami Lakes Athletic Club remains the favorite place for fit folks, and those who aspire to be.
For the fourth year in a row, the gym that celebrated its 40th anniversary last year won best fitness/wellness/gym in the Best of Miami Lakes contest.
The town announced the winners for the annual online rankings on Nov. 20. There were more than 3,000 votes submitted across eight categories for businesses and services.
“It’s the culture here we’re very family oriented,” Assistant General Manager Annette Prior Perez said Tuesday. “We have programs for the youth, for the adults and for the seniors.
“It’s a very welcoming facility for anyone,” she said.
Along with many free classes, there are also outdoor courts for basketball, tennis and pickleball courts.
There is a large field for pick-up games and is where the club’s new soccer program plays.
There are also basketball and gymnastics programs as well as summer camps for kids.
Prior Perez said the club recently renovated the locker rooms. The cardio and weight rooms have new equipment.

“We have a very caring staff,” she said. “Trainers and instructors are fabulous here.”
This year’s other winners included:
