The Town of Miami Lakes is seeking students who want to be more engaged with local government.

Applications are now being accepted for the Youth Advisory Board to help provide perspectives on issues affecting young people in the community.

The board will serve to advise the town council by “helping to ensure that the experiences, opinions and priorities of Miami Lakes youth are considered as part of the Town’s decision-making process.”

The board will consist of seven members who will each serve a one-year term.

To be considered for a position on the board eligible applicants must:

• Be a Miami Lakes resident or attend one of the eligible area schools

• Maintain an unweighted GPA of at least 2.5

• Submit a completed Youth Advisory Board application to the town

• Obtain the signature of a parent or legal guardian on the application

Eligible schools include Miami Lakes K-8 Center; Bob Graham Education Center; Miami Lakes Middle School; Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School; Miami Lakes Educational Center; Barbara Goleman Senior High School and Hialeah-Miami Lakes Senior High School.

Applicants do not need to live in town, but a preference will be given to Miami Lakes residents.

The board will meet monthly and will be required to operate using the town’s established committee rules, regulations and procedures, according to a release by the town.

Applications will be accepted for six weeks and members will be appointed at the November 2026 council meeting, with the first meeting to be held in January 2027.

Students interested in applying should submit an application form. Forms can be found at: https://bit.ly/4yGVbPV.
