Town Topics: Election Day is Nov. 5. What does voting mean to you?

     “Voting is pivotal as an American, considering so many people have paid the ultimate sacrifice to have that right to vote,” Carlos Andres said. “It’s popular to talk about national politics, [but] what affects us directly is our local politics. We need to make sure that everyone goes out to vote.”

     “To me, voting is very important because that allows me to have a voice in my government and my voice is being counted,” Stanley Jean-Poix said. “I am able to participate in the process. We should all participate in voting. It’s how we hold our politicians accountable and that’s how we get the services that we need.”

     “I came from a country where democracy does not exist and there is no real opportunity to vote,” Alain Teutelo wrote in an email. “I’m beyond grateful to now live in the United States, be an American citizen and have the right to choose who I think should lead us. I encourage everyone to register and vote in this upcoming election.”  

Nancy Rogers Chair, Public Safety Committee, Former police department complaint desk operator Miami Lakes

     “It’s one of the most important things you can do as a citizen,” Nancy Rogers said. “If you don’t like something, you’re given the opportunity to do something about it.”

    “To me, voting means an opportunity to view issues that affect others and really consider the consequences of those laws, irrespective of one’s personal views,” Rebeca Morales said.
