The Miami Wildcats 16-and-under softball team recently won the ESPN/USSSA World Series Championship in Orlando, Florida. Forty-six teams competed in the 16-and -under division, including teams from California, New York, New Jersey, Florida, Arizona and Alabama, during the eight-day tournament.

The Wildcats went undefeated in the winners bracket putting them straight into the championship series. The girls faced off versus South Alabama Elite who gave them their first loss of the tournament but “these girls came to the World Series with a mission,” said coach Charlie Veiga. “They came back to bring the trophy home.”

In the second game, the Wildcats bounced back by shutting out Alabama 12-0 to win the championship title. “It was a complete team effort,” said Veiga. “Every single girl responded when her number was called and we couldn’t be prouder of them.”

Several Wildcats members played in the Miami Lakes Optimist Club’s softball program. Besides receiving individual first place crystal trophies, for the first time ever, the team will be receiving individual personalized World Series rings from USSA.
