The Miami Lakes Heat fast pitch softball team recently competed at Fletcher Park for a USSA Tournament. The girls went 2-1 to put them into a single elimination match against power house teams Plantataion Pressure and Sunrise Thunder. They defeated Pressure 4-1 and Thunder 9-1. MLK-8 Center participates in 11th Kids Run

In late January, Miami Lakes K-8 Center students took part in the 11th Kids Run Miami sponsored by the Miami marathon. Students who participated accumulated 25 miles during their physical education classes. They ran the last 1.2 miles of the marathon.
