Miami Lakes Optimist Club softball star and American alumnus Erika Castroman officially received a full athletic scholarship at A.SA. College in Hialeah.

Castroman is a product of Miami Lakes Optimist Club since the age of 6 and playing travel league softball at 8 for the Miami Lakes Heat.

Her dad, Miami Lakes Optimist Club softball Commissioner Alex Castroman, coached her from 6 to 17-years-old.

Castroman graduated from American High this year, recording 23-53 with an .434 batting average with 19 RBI.

“I’ve had a wonderful playing experience at Miami Lakes Optimist Club,” she said. “It prepared me for the second stage of my softball career. I’m extremely grateful to MLO and all the coaches who have had an impact throughout my years there. So many memories and friends.”

Alex Castroman said, “We are extremely proud of her. Softball seven days a week, traveling all over the state on tournaments, all the scratches and bruises have all be worth it. Hard work and dedication always pay off. We love you, Erika.”
