American High’s softball team is 3-0, including an upset victory over the No. 1 ranked team in Miami-Dade County.
Last week, the Patriots remained undefeated with a 15-0 victory of Krop, as pitcher Ashley Alfonso is 3-0.
In that game, she tossed 6 strikeouts in six innings of work.
A week prior, the Patriots knocked off the then-No.1 ranked team, Palmetto High, 3-1, in the third game of the regular season.
In the game, the Patriots played like state champions, as pitcher Ashley Alfonso tossed eight strikeouts, gave up three hits and one unearned run in seven innings of work.
Other top performers included Alexis Guzman, who went 2-3- with two RBI’s; Yanelys Fernandez, (2-3 with one RBI), Tyenna Colon (1-3 with one run, 2B and one stolen base), and Erika Castroman, who went 1-3.
The girls dominated Palmetto in every facet of the game, with outstanding defensive plays by Melanie Arauz, Karla Soza and Yanelys Fernandez.
“I believe these two teams are headed for a showdown at the end of the season to decide who goes to the state finals,” said Alex Castroman, Erika Castroman’s father and coach at the Miami Lakes Optimist Club. “At least for now, we know who’s No. 1.”
