After losing to Coral Gables in a GMAC semifinal game, American High’s softball team was seeking vengeance in the regional playoffs.
But the Cavaliers seemed to have the Patriots’ number and eliminated them from the Region 4-9A semifinal with a 4-1 score.
Coral Gables (19-7) faces Palmetto Bay in the regional final, marking a rematch for the GMAC championship game.

The Patriots dominated Miami Beach, 15-0, in the regional quarterfinals, as American’s ace pitcher Ashley Alfonso (15-2) struck out five batters in three innings of work, and scored three RBI on offense.
Before regional play, American won its seventh consecutive district championship with a 12-0 shutout victory over Hialeah.
