Doral girl’s fast pitch All-Star softball team, the Wolf Pack, played at the Jacksonville Storm showcase on July 10-12 at the Florida State University Athletic Complex in Tallahassee and finished 6-0.
The team was anchored by three excellent pitchers, Jennifer Acevedo, Miami Lakes Optimist Club’s star Alexis Castroman and Giselle Mesa. Acevedo and Castroman were both recruited and signed by St. Thomas University, and Mesa was signed by Warner University.
“It was a wonderful experience,” said Miami Lakes Optimist softball commissioner Alex Castroman. “The showcase included some of the Optimist Club’s Heat All-Stars, including Alyssa Rodriguez, Tyenna Colon, and Melissa Luis.
The team’s defense was solid all around and the offense was solid as well, with 3 home runs by Samantha Lageyre and Sacha Olivera, and hits by Rodriguez, Grethell Santos and Colon.
Each player drew a lot of attention by college scouts who attended the tournament.
The team is managed and coached by Walter and Jean Acevedo. The team has been playing for many years and has produced quite a number of signees. The coaches have put in a lot of time and effort in getting the girls ready to play and talking to different schools on their behalf.
The team’s players have either signed or committed to attend colleges to play softball.
Mesa signed with Warner University, Luis signed with Pensacola State University, Acevedo and Castroman signed with St. Thomas University, Samantha Lageyre signed with Florida Atlantic University, Sydney Lageyre committed to Nova University, Rodriguez committed to Webber International University, Santos committed to St. Thomas University and Dayma Pla committed to Florida Southwest State University.
