Florida International University’s indoor and beach volleyball teams have been recognized with the 2017-18 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) TeamAcademicAward. The indoor program was among 164 teams recognized, while the beach volleyball program is one of just 23 honored.
The indoor team posted a cumulative grade point average of 3.34, for the year. Beach volleyball logged a grade point average of 3.56.
“I am so proud of my teams for their academic accomplishments,” said Rita Buck- Crockett, head coach of both programs. “This is an honor that is as demanding as competing in a championship. These ladies are continuously demonstrating that they are champions in life, as well as in the sports.”
The award honors collegiate and high school volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team gradepoint average on a 4.0 scale or a 4.10 cumulative team GPA on a 5.0 scale.
This season, the beach volleyball program posted a 23-12 record, and a 7-3 mark in Coastal Collegiate Sports Association play, advancing to their first-ever NCAA Championships in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
