Florida International University freshman setter Abbie Hughes was named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association fifth annual High School Beach All-American team.
Hughes, who leads FIU with 229 assists on the season, was honored on the second team. Hughes played for Ohio Valley Beach Volleyball Academy/Next Level during her prep career in Mason, Ohio.
At the Ohio Valley Beach Volleyball Academy, Hughes won back-to-back Beach Fest Gulf Shores Tournaments. Hughes also placed second in the USA National Championship and finished first in two AVP Next events.
“Abbie is a unique athlete that was able to navigate playing indoor and beach as successfully as anyone in the country garnishing All-American status in both disciplines,” said Rob Long, director at Ohio Valley Beach. “Before leaving for college at Florida International in June, Abbie and Maddie Anderson were yet to drop a match as a partnership in juniors play in 2018.”
