FIU’s Morgan semifinalist for Campbell Trophy

James Morgan, quarterback for Florida International University’s football team is a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy.
It is awarded each year by the National Foundation and College Hall of Fame.
Created 30 years ago, the trophy recognizes players who showed academic and gridiron success during the season.
Morgan was nominated by FIU and is one of 185 semifinalists.
The 6 foot, 4 inch, 213-pound senior from Green Bay, Wis., is one of the four athletes from Conference USA to be recognized.
In his first season, Morgan broke single-season school records for passing touchdowns (26), highest passer efficiency rating (157.6) and total offense per play (7.67), FIU said.
Other kudos that came his way: C-USA Honorable Mention; C-USA Spirit of Service Award; Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award watch list and Manning Stars of the Week, FIU said.
Candidates for the Campbell Trophy must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of playing eligibility, have a GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale and have outstanding football ability, all while demonstrating strong leadership and citizenship.
Finalists will be announced on Oct. 30.
