The FIU swimming and diving team swept Conference USA weekly honors last month, when Kyna Pereira and Rebecca Quesnel were named the C-USA Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, the league announced.
Both Pereira and Quesnel helped FIU to a perfect 3-0 mark during the Dual-A-Palooza in Houston, Texas. The Panthers topped Tulane, 142-82, defeated C-USA foe Rice, 104-98, and downed Denver, 119.50-85.50, for the weekend sweep.
Pereira had a dominant weekend with six individual first-place finishes and anchored a relay team that placed first in the 400 Free.
The honor marks the fifth of Pereira's FIU career.
Quesnel picked up two first-place finishes in Houston. The native of Burlington, Ontario, scored a 276.25 in the 3-meter program as FIU swept the top three spots in the Panthers' 142-82 win over Tulane. Quesnel finished third in the 1-meter program versus Rice as FIU used the 16 diving points to propel past the Owls, 104-98.
The third-year Panther finished the day with her second top finish, scoring a 273.95 in the 3-meter as FIU defeated Denver, 119.50-85.50. The 276.25 score during Friday's action was the meet high. The FIU divers took the top three spots in all three sessions of the meet, out-scoring the opposition, 48-6.
The award is the 12th of Quesnel's career.
