Florida International University’s swimming and diving team keeps racking up conference awards. Last month, the Panthers claimed both the Conference USA Swimming and Diving awards, as freshman Maha Gouda was named Diver of The Week, while sophomore Stephanie Hussey earned Swimmer of the Week honors.
For Gouda, it marks the third time she has earned the honor and it comes after her record breaking performance in a dual meet with Nova and Indian River, where she posted a score of 347.63 from the 3-meter. In addition to a first-place finish from the 1-meter (310.20), Gouda's achievements rank as top marks in the C-USA this season.
Nominated twice for the award, Hussey picks up her first recognition of the year. The sophomore has been a dominate force for the Panthers since the 2018-19 season. She has already notched nine first-place finishes. She opened the the meet with a first-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:45.58) and later dominated the 200 fly (2:04.28) and 400 IM (4:26.99). Her time for the 200 fly (2:04.28)is a season best for the veteran who also currently holds the second-best top time in the conference for the 400 IM (4:26.99).
After a slow start to the season, the Panthers made strides at Indian River. Of the 16 events FIU participated in, 12 ended with first-place finishes, besting Nova (161-101) and Indian River (192-106).
