Louisiana State University head baseball coach Paul Mainieri clinched his fifth trip to the College World Series but lost to the University of Florida in the championship game last week. The Gators snapped the Tiger’s 17 game-winning streak, including victories over Alabama, Auburn, Florida State and Mississippi State. Mainieri, a St. Thomas University alumnus and former head coach for the Bobcats baseball program, was inducted into the Bobcat Hall of Fame in 2009, and the school named their new baseball field in his honor in 2013. His last trip to Omaha was in 2009 when the Tigers won the National Championship over Texas. Mainieri’s accolades include winning the National Coach of the Year award on four occasions, and a one-time Skip Bertman award winner.
