Four Spartans to play college baseball

Four seniors at Monsignor Edward Pace High School signed Letters of Intent on Nov. 12 to play college baseball. Pace held a Signing Day ceremony for the young men, whose relatives, teachers and friends witnessed them commit to their future academic and athletic careers, the school in Miami Gardens said.

They are, left to right, Luke Rier, a left-handed pitcher who committed to Manhattan College in Riverdale, N.Y.; Ephraim Bravo, an outfielder who committed to Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La., shortstop Franco Garcia, who will attend Trinity College in Hartford, Conn. and Emilio Portes, who plays outfield and plans to attend Bethune-Cookman University in Daytona Beach, Fla.
