Barbara Goleman Senior High School’s girls soccer team won the Class 6A District 15 Championship for the first time in more than a decade with a 6-1 victory over North Miami Senior High on Feb. 5. Sophomore captain Miranda Castellanos; junior Hailey Chavez; junior captain Rebekah Salcedo and freshman Kayla Lewis, shown, left to right, scored all 6 points for the Gators in the game. They finished the season 6-4. Goleman coach Melanie Gonzalez played on the Gators team that won the school’s first district title in 2008. “To win as a coach now was truly quite a full circle experience,” she said. “I’ve coached the team for three years now and one of my goals was to turn this soccer program around to what it used to be when I was a student here.” Doral Academy eliminated the Gators from the regional playoffs, 3-0 on Feb. 17.
