Goleman's badminton team captures District title, the third in five seasons

badminton team recently won the district title, giving the Gators three championships in five seasons.

 During the day-long district tournament, Goleman recorded 17 points to take the title after competing against Krop, Carol City, Hialeah Gardens and Mourning. 

 The Gladiators and the Chiefs were tied for district runner-up with 10 points. 

 Alyssa Moore led the Gators by winning the girls’ singles title, and Gabriella Lopez was the runner-up. 

 For the boys’, Carlos Vigo finished in first place in singles competition, and Brandon Jorge and Joel Fernandez won the boys’ doubles. 

 “I’m extremely excited and proud of all their hard work and dedication to the sport,” said head coach Debbie Perez. 

 Perez, who’s been coaching the team for 12 years, said Moore excelled in the sport by winning the Miami-Dade Fair competition and making the Miami Herald All-Dade First Team as well. 

 “She plays so hard,” she said. “We are proud of her.” Perez also coaches the school’s bowling team, which has won eight district titles and competed in the state tournament this past season.
