Goleman’s baseball team defeats Hialeah Gardens in the BSN Tournament

Barbara Goleman’s baseball team defeated rival Hialeah Gardens, 1-0, in the BSN Tournament at Christopher Columbus High School.

With the two schools only a 10-minute drive apart, it’s only fitting the game was an intense contest decided by one run. This time it was the Gators who got the last laugh and neighborhood bragging rights.

Sophomore John Urena ended a scoreless tie when he crossed home plate for the winning run in the top of the sixth inning for Goleman (1-0). Senior Simon Dalmau had one of five hits for the Gators. He finished 1-for-2 with a double.

Goleman senior left-handed pitcher Adrien Garrastazu tossed a complete game, recording 10 strikeouts, and Raul Conpanioni was 2-for-3 for Goleman.

Levis Aguila was 2-for-3 to lead the Hialeah Gardens offense, and Iroel Ruiz struck out four in three scoreless innings.

Columbus shut out Goleman, 10-0, in the ensuing game in the tournament.
