For the first time in nearly two decades, the old rivalry between the Hialeah Miami Lakes (HML) and Barbara Goleman Senior High (BGSHS) football teams appeared as their football teams played for the Mayor’s Cup in a preseason game. The two teams had not played each other in several years, as they are in different athletic districts. The competition was fierce throughout the night, but in the end, the HML Trojans defeated the Goleman Gators at the Ted Hendricks Stadium in front of a crowd of about 500 attendees. The trophy was presented to HML head football coach Tyronn Johnson by Miami Lakes Mayor Manny Cid alongside Miami Lakes councilman Luis Collazo.
