Two Hialeah Miami Lakes swimmers qualified for the Florida State Swimming Championship meet.  Freshman Jocelyn Ruiz and sophomore Aaron Rodriguez competed at the Sailfish Splash Park swimming facility in Stuart, Florida on November 4.

Both qualified after competing at the state regional championships at Florida Gulf Coast University.  Ruiz who recently celebrated her 14th birthday, is also the District Champion in the women’s 100 meter butterfly.  At the state finals, Ruiz placed 13th in the state and Rodriguez placed 13th in the 50 meter freestyle and 14 in the 100 meter free style.

Ruiz was the only swimmer from Miami Dade County to qualify for the state final race. Swimmers from HML have qualified for the state championship meet for the last five years in a row. HML Swimming Coach Francisco Rocha predicts a bright future for Trojan swimming.
