Not bad for a rookie.
Jacob Thomas’ first ever experience playing organized sports is memorable, as the seven-year-old claimed the MVP award after leading his Giants flag football team at the Miami Lakes Optimist Club to an undefeated record, 10-0, and the spring league championship for the 5-7 age division.
Thomas is a multi purpose player, playing quarterback, running back, wide receiver, and he helped his team out on defense.
The juggernaut was guided by his father and Giants head coach, Unri Thomas, who said his team’s season and son’s MVP performance was amazing.
“It was exciting,” said Unri Thomas, who played college football at Bethune-Cookman University. “I saw myself in him watching him play.”
Thomas said he was a little emotional after his son was named MVP.
“I never won an MVP award, and to watch him dominate the game that way was amazing,” said Thomas.
Bashful and shy, the younger Thomas said: “I’m excited to win my first MVP award.”
His father said Jacob’s knowledge and understanding of the game is impressive.
“He loves to compete, he has talent and the speed,” Unri Thomas said.
The Downtown Charter School student plans to continue playing football and will try his hand at basketball.
