Miami Lakes resident Yasnei Llavore is fulfilling her dream of playing college softball for Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia.
The private, liberal arts women’s college recruited the former Mater Academy student and American Heritage graduate following her superb performance on the diamond, and her accomplishments off the field.
Llavore was recognized as a Power Hitter and best First Base Ever.
She also played soccer as a goalie.
At Mater Academy, she was named Academic and Athlete of the Year; HomeRun Leader Award; and Outstanding Player of the Year at American Heritage.
Llavore also played softball at the Miami Lakes Optimist Club with the Miami Lakes Heat All-Stars team, and coached the 12U team during Summer League play.
For Academics, she made the Honor Roll as a student at Bob Graham Education Center; won multiple Honor Societies awards; and she speaks three languages: Spanish, English and French.
She also was awarded the Student of the Year in Pre-med Embryology at American Heritage.
“Her determination and faith in God has kept her moving forward leaving behind many obstacles,” her mother said. “The loss of her grandmother recently was tough but her love for her grandmother kept her strong in what she wanted to do after graduation.”
This summer, Llavore was a member of the Silver Lakes Park for the Diamond Dusters 18u Gold team to sharpen her skills to play college softball.
