Hialeah Miami Lakes student Jocely Ruiz won the girls 100 yard Butterfly District Championship last month.
Also in local high school action, Mater Academy girls’ cross-country runner Valerie Lastra won the District 16-3A championship with a time of 18:17:60, and Hialeah Gardens girls’ swimming and diving student Jessica Rodriguez won the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke at the District 11-4A championships.
Mater Academy swimming teams advanced to the regional meet in Fort Meyers. Julio Horrego came in first place in the 200 IM.
Also qualifying for Mater were Robert Martorell, Jeytom Macias, Liz Travieso, Melanie Jimenez, Ana Kondratovitch, Juliano Lopez, Julio Horrego and Vanessa Mesa.
