Local student athletes named to All-Dade teams

A group of local high school student-athletes were recognized for their performances, as they made The Miami Herald All-Dade teams for basketball, soccer, wrestling and cheerleading.

For boys’ basketball in Class 9A-7A, Mater Academy guard George Berrceril made All-Dade Second Team honors, while Hialeah Gardens guard Marlon Suarez was named Third Team honors.

Honorable mentions include American High players Myquel Noel, Brian Diaz and Desean Hall; Hialeah Gardens players Lian Lopez, Lazaro Borrell, Justice Galezo, Caleb Alic and Brian Duncan; and Mater Academy players Jesus Duquesne, Cedrick Harris, Alex Simoza and Seven Ferguson.

For Class 5A-2A, Mater Lakes guard Cyrus Largie earned Second Team honors, and Pace guard Marcus Frazier made All-Dade Third Team.

Honorable mentions included Pace players Dominic Shaw, Marc Rodriguez, James Williams and Bryner Joseph.

For boys’ soccer, honorable mentions for Class 5A-4A included Mater Academy players Issac Bangs, Alvaro Zapata, Ronaldo Rossette, Sebastian DeCastro and Gianfranco Stracuzzi.

For girls’ basketball, making the 5A-2A First Team was Pace forward Gianni Domonds, her teammate, guard Tamara Troup-Bishop earned Second Team honors, and Spartans forward Andrea Daley made the All-Dade Third Team.

Honorable mentions included Pace players Lyniya Whitfield, Naomi Joseph and Cheala Cumbermack.

Also for girls’ basketball, honorable mentions include American players Amaya Dixon, Arianna Smith, Dasiy Aviles and Brianna Baker; Mater Academy players Kaylee Lianos, Brianna Alexander, Amber Ramirez and Elizabeth Dalmau and Annette Alicandu.

For girls’ soccer, Mater Academy’s midfielder Amanda Diaz made the All-Dade 5A-4A Second Team, while her teammates, forward Natalie Woodward and defender Karla Vargas, made Third Team All-Dade.

Honorable mentions included Mater Academy players Madison Delucca, Melanie Chiquillo, Daniela Ortega, Karla Celis and Emily Tercero.

For wrestling, Mater Lakes’ Cole Schwartzberg earned First Team honors, as he finished 68-3 and state runner-up, and Mater Academy’s Jonathan Ley earned Second Team honors with a 34-12 record and qualified for the state tournament.

Third Team honors include Mater Academy’s Steven Villalobos, and honorable mentions included Hialeah Miami Lakes’ David Pozo, and Pace’s James Guerrier, Tivon Cruickshank, Ray Lugo and Max Benjamin.
