Miami Lakes Optimist’s the Heat softball team won the Miami Marlins RBI League Championship after finishing 12-1-1 to claim the top prize.
The girls’ team competed in the RBI League from May 5 to June 24.
They won their first two playoffs game before advancing to the championship game.
“They were all serious and on target,” said coach Alex Castroman. “They played the Stings and won that game to make it.”
On July 30, the girls were presented the championship trophy at Marlins Park next to the team’s dug out with Marlins’ outfielder Christian Yelich presenting the trophy to the team.
“Needless to say the girls were esthetic,” Castroman said. “They played hard all season long, overcoming injuries.
The team was comprised of girls from American High, Mater Lakes Academy, Hialeah Gardens and Miami Lakes Educational Center. They also play softball at the Optimist Club.
“We are extremely proud of all of them,” Castroman said.
