Chicago Cubs center fielder Albert Almora, a Mater Academy alumni, is playing in his first World Series against the Cleveland Indians.
Almora’s Cubs are playing in the Fall Classic for the first time since 1945, and they last won the World Series in 1908.
The Cubs drafted the Hialeah native in the first round in 2012, and he made his Major League Baseball debut this year, when Jorge Soler was placed on the disabled list. He made his first career start in left field on June 8 against the Philadelphia Phillies, and on his first fielding opportunity threw out a runner at home to complete a double play. The following day, he got his first major league hit.
