Mater Lakes' varsity soccer captain, Sabella Santiago, signs to play at St. Thomas University for 2018 season

Mater Lakes Academy outside defender Sabella Santiago has signed to play women's soccer for St. Thomas University beginning in the 2018 season, according to head coach Michelle Smith who made the announcement during a news conference.

Santiago is a captain for Miami Lakes Academy's varsity soccer team and has helped lead the MLA team to a 9-2-2 start for the 2017-18 season.

Santiago is also a key member of the highly successful Miami Lakes United Soccer Club travel team.

An honors student, Santiago has excelled in the classroom. She is a National Social Studies Honor Society member and a member of Mater Lakes Academy's Marine Science Club.

Santiago will enroll at St. Thomas as a freshman and is expected to play outside defender for the Bobcats who are coming off a strong 12-3-1 overall record and an 8-2 Sun Conference record in 2017.

“Isabella is an accomplished defender who will be a great fit for us at STU,” said Smith. “She will be an important addition to us as we solidify our defense for 2018.”
