On December 16 and 17, the Bears wrestling team at Mater Lakes Academy finished undefeated with a 6-0 record at the Coral Park Holiday Duels claiming first place out of the twelve teams that participated.
The Bears defeated Miami Springs, McArthur (Hollywood), Coral Park, Hialeah Gardens, and Pinecrest Prep. The Bears defeated Coral Gables in the first place match pushing their overall record to 17-2 on the season.
“Our wrestling program continues to set the bar, and we are excited to see how far the team will make it this year,” said athletic director David Rovirosa.
The Mater Lakes wrestling team is under the direction of Brandon Neifeld, who has been coaching the program since its inception in the 2012-2013 school year.
“Every year the team keeps improving, and they are ready for great things this year. I am extremely proud of what they have accomplished over the years and I expect nothing but the best from these guys and they have given to me,” said Neifeld.
Support the Bears and cheer on the captains, Cole Schwartzberg and Nestor Nunez, along with the rest of the Bears’ wrestling team, at the next tournament on January 6 and 7 at Archbishop McCarthy High School, 5451 S Flamingo Road in Southwest Ranches.
Mater Lakes Academy is a Miami-Dade County Public Charter School, with students enrolled in grades 6 through 12. The school has been open since the 2006-2007 academic school year, and is currently in its 11th year under the direction of principal Rene F. Rovirosa.
