Mater Lakes' wrestling team ends in second place at Regional finals

Mater Lakes Academy’s wrestling team ranked second place in the 1A 4 regionals, as the Bears shattered all program records with an amazing regional tournament finishing a close second place as a team and sending nine wrestlers to the state tournament. The Bears dominated the district tournament as the wrestling team had a program best six wrestlers win an individual district title. Danny Martinez, Nick Luna, Gonzalo Perez, Omar Armengol, Nestor Nunez, and David Alvarez all finished in first place. Justin Zerbinati, Rafael Alvarez, and Ethan Vergara finished in 2nd place. Dylan Lanning finished in 4th place. The Bears are in the hunt for a Regional team championship this weekend as they look to improve on last year’s fourth place finish with five state qualifiers.
