Mater's Girls' basketball team wins District title

Mater Academy girls’ basketball team last week won the 16-8A District Championship with a 60-6 crushing defeat over Mourning. The championship victory came after the Lions clobbered Ronald Reagan, 66-13, in the semifinal.  

The Lady Lions advanced to regional competition this week.

Monsignor Edward Pace girls’ basketball team (14-5) clobbered iMater Charter, 64-9, in a Class 5A playoff match-up and advanced to the next round of the postseason.

For boys’ basketball, Mater Lakes Academy (17-7) defeated Mourning to grab the No. 1 seed in the district tournament which is scheduled for this week. 

Pace is seeded No. 2, followed by Miami Edison at No. 3 and iMater is the No. 4 seed.

In high school soccer playoffs:

American High boys’ soccer team (4-9-1) lost to Plantation, 2-1, in a regional playoff game, ending the Patriots’ season.

Plantation (14-4-2) is set to play Cypress Bay this week in Weston.

Mater Academy girls’ soccer team lost to Ransom Everglades, 2-0, in a District semifinal game.

The Lions upset Chaminade Madonna, 5-1, in the District quarterfinal.
