MDC's 'Kiko' Benoit named AVCA Coach of the Year

Miami Dade College girl’s volleyball head coach Origene “Kiko” Benoit was named 2017 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Coach of the Year,

Benoit, who graduated from American High School, led the Lady Sharks to their second consecutive NJCAA Volleyball National Championships, finishing the season undefeated with a 34-0 overall record.

The Lady Sharks shut out CSI 3-0 (25-13, 25-21, and 25-18) to win the 2017 National Championship, and their tenth national title. 

Benoit, who has been the team’s head coach for 12 seasons, was named Southern Conference Coach of the Year ten times and State Coach of the Year eight times. The AVCA is an organization of more than 6,000 members, incorporated as a private non-profit educational corporation in 1981, as the Collegiate Volleyball Coaches Association.
