For the second consecutive season, Miami Dade College’s women’s volleyball team captured the FCSAA State Volleyball Championship, and the Lady Sharks are on their way to defending their national championship this week in Hutchinson, Kansas.

The team is seeking its third straight national title.

The Lady Sharks (25-0) defeated Polk State College in the final match to win the state title, 23-25-25-20, 25-12, 25-21.

Tiziano Baumrukova led the Miami Dade team with 50 assists, one ace and eight digs, while her teammate, Scherine Dauhoue recorded 12 digs, 16 kills and two blocks.

Smart Caraballo added 21 digs in the victory over Polk State.

According to head coach Kiko Benoit, the season mirrors the team’s outstanding performance in previous years, when the Lady Sharks wrapped up a stellar undefeated post season by winning their ninth NJCAA Volleyball National Championship.

Miami Dade College will have the opportunity to set a school record by bringing home three consecutive national titles.

“I am very proud of our stellar student athletes,” said MDC president Dr. Eduardo J. Padron. “Thank you, Lady Sharks, for giving your all to your team and your college, and for your outstanding contribution to MDC’s long and successful history in collegiate sports.”
