The Miami Lakes Optimist Club recently held its 50th officers installation ceremony at Italy Today restaurant on Main Street in Miami Lakes. Angie Rodriguez, the governor for the South District Optimist Club International, was the guest speaker and presented her plan for the 2018- 2019 year. With 1,500 kids participating in flag football, baseball, softball and soccer, the Miami Lakes Optimist Club is seeking to increase membership and number of volunteers for sports and recreation activities and educational programs. The organization also announced a new essay contest for kids in the Miami Lakes community on playing sports and enhancing their academics in school.
