Pace High School’s baseball team was honored during a recent Miami Marlins games at Marlins Park, where alumnus and San Francisco Giants pitcher Ivan Dereck Rodriguez greeted the 2018 state champions. The Spartans defeated Jacksonville Bolles, 10-4, to win their seventh state title in baseball. Rodriguez, the son of former Marlins player and Hall of Famer Ivan Pudge Rodriguez, was the starting pitcher for the game, which Miami won. The Giants called up Rodriguez from Class AAA Sacramento last month and made his MLB debut against the Colorado Rockies.
