The Miami Lakes Bengals 6U All-Star baseball team finished the summer with a 11-1 record. The T-Ball team, representing the Optimist Club of Miami Lakes, won four consecutive tournament championships and only lost one game.
The team won the tournaments at the Optimist Clubs of Cooper City, Pembroke Lakes, West Pembroke Pines and Miami Lakes.
The summer has been “very” good for the Bengals, winning a myriad of nail biters and rallying late in their games to claim the four tournament titles.
According to head coach Luis Ochoa, his team showed grit, stamina and a relentless pursuit towards earning the championship trophies.
“I’m proud of the kids because they put in a lot of practice, especially on Saturday and Sundays, spending two months preparing for the tournaments,” said Ochoa. “To get us fully prepared, we practiced against older teams. It was a lot of dedication.”
One player’s father, who also volunteers for the team, said the summer of 2017 will be one to remember.
“It was an impressive way to redeem themselves after last year’s disappointing serial losses,” said Rene Hernandez, whose seven-year-old son Matthew plays for the Bengals. “The young athletes represented the Town of Miami Lakes well and were awarded with four straight championship trophies and glimmering LED lights to illuminate the impressive victories.”
