MLK-8 Center participates in 11th Kids Run

In late January, Miami Lakes K-8 Center students took part in the 11th Kids Run Miami sponsored by the Miami marathon. Students who participated accumulated 25 miles during their physical education classes. They ran the last 1.2 miles of the marathon. Along with the teachers, students, and parents, there were three special participants: Principal Carlos Salcedo, who ran 13.1 miles (half-marathon), Physical Education teacher Alexis Garcia, who ran the full 26.2-mile marathon, and Lucas Martinez, who was the school’s first wheelchair participant being pushed by his former teacher, Marlene Garcia.
